From basic research to market
Time to market for new and innovative materials can be anywhere up to 15 years. That is a very long time to bridge for one single company or a company solely financed privately.
As long as the research is in an early stage, there is a need for additional scientific understanding and the outcome is quite unsure, therefore risky, from a commercial point of view. Government funding is often necessary to reduce the risk and bridge a part of this period before industrial parties take over to implement the knowledge in applications.
SIM research programs aim to bridge this gap:
- Focus on demand driven materials research with applications in mind
- Bridging the gap from basic research over to applied research towards industrial development
